Brett Veach not surprised the Bills would once again trade with the Chiefs

“Super excited today we were able to make a small move with Buffalo and move from 32 to 28,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach explained after the first round. “[We] basically moved down 38 spots from our third to their fourth and flopped picks there.”

Veach is also happy to have executed the trade without reducing his squad’s overall number of draft picks.

“Obviously,” he added, “Xavier was a guy we were excited about, and we were kind of just playing the board, and then we had an opportunity to do something there. It was important for us to keep our picks too, so we still have some picks to work with in the next few days. We’re excited about adding Xavier to the roster.”

Speaking after Veach, head coach Andy Reid bragged on his general manager’s skills in knowing when to make a move.

“We had marked this kid, Xavier, that we wanted him,” Reid stated. “We just felt that [when] you start getting down there, somebody might jump us and pick him up. Brett does a great job of this. He’s got a great feel for the people who have interest in a position and a player and where he needs to go to attack it.”
