Speaking to the media, Mahomes expressed his optimism about Brown’s potential impact on the team, highlighting his surprise at Brown’s route-running abilities.
“I think the route-running is what I’ve been pleasantly surprised by,” Mahomes said, as reported by Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star. The Chiefs’ wide receiver depth currently includes players like Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Skyy Moore. While having Mahomes at the helm and the reliable Travis Kelce certainly helps offset the team’s wide receiver challenges, it’s clear that this is not the team’s strongest position group.
Rashee Rice, in particular, had a strong season, but his future with the team is uncertain due to legal issues stemming from a recent car accident.
Looking ahead, the NFL Draft at the end of April presents an opportunity for the Chiefs to further address their wide receiver needs. With a deep class of talent at that position, the draft could provide the team with additional options.
