The title blows past Beyoncé’s previously-set record for the bestselling project of 2024 in America.
Before The Tortured Poets Department arrived, Beyoncé’s latest album Cowboy Carter ranked as the bestselling full-length in the country this year. Billboard notes that the country effort had sold 188,000 actual copies between its release in late March and April 11.The Tortured Poets Department didn’t just pass Cowboy Carter, though–it completely demolished that album’s record. Swift’s full-length outsold the bestselling album in America this year seven times over–in just one day.
So far, The Tortured Poets Department has shifted a total of 1.6 million equivalent units, including sales and streaming units. That sum is also as of just the project’s first day of availability (Friday, April 19).
