Tom Cruise Made Unusual Move After Daughter Suri’s Magazine Debut

When Tom Cruise and his then-wife Katie Holmes gave birth to their first (and only) child in April 2006, just about everyone wanted to see the little one. However, the former power couple was able to keep Suri away from the ever-present paparazzi lens and didn’t share any photos of her until they felt they were ready.

That moment came in September 2006 when Suri appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair alongside her super famous parents. According to The Blade, Suri was also featured on 22 pages inside the magazine. The curiosity alone caused the magazine to fly off shelves.

“She has Kate’s lips and eyes,” Tom told the magazine.

“I think she has Tom’s eyes. I think she looks like Tom,” Holmes said at the time.

Now, in a March 2025 interview with Page Six, former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter revealed what happened after the magazine was published. Carter told the outlet that the Mission Impossible actor sent him numerous Christmas gifts, including “a document, under plexiglass, that had 20 tenets of Scientology printed on it.”

In the years that followed, Suri became a target for paparazzi. When her parents divorced in 2012, Suri moved into a new home in New York City with her mom. Holmes did her best to shield Suri from the public eye and to give her as normal of a life as possible.
